JUNE 2009 COMPETITION RESULTS

Our Judge for the night was Tony Reade.  Tony is an internationally accredited judge, and so he brings a new dimension to the monthly competition.  For those who were unable to attend Tony has a different approach to judging compared to that of our other judges.

Tony has six categories that he uses to assess each image.  He gives a score for each of the categories and then calculates a final score out of 100. Tony “spoke to” each of the images giving a fair but at times cutting appraisal. One thing you could be assured of though was if you achieved an honour or merit score then you deserved it. If you didn’t then you may take solace in that it took an International Judge to deny you your true worth!

For your hard working committee it made life a little hectic. Here is the method we used to convert the score given by Tony to one that fits our usual template:- If a score was given as (say) 65.00 through to 74.99 then it was considered to be a score of 7. It follows then, that a score of 75.00 through to 84.99 would be considered to be a score of 8.  We consider that this is the fairest way to marry the two diverse scoring systems.  I would entertain any submissions from any of our members on how we may manage this differently.

Having said that, I would like to recognise the effort of Helen Flack who managed to write up all of those Merit and Honour awards and had them ready by the end of the night.  If anyone achieved an award but left the meeting before the awards were ready, see Helen next meeting.

I would like to especially mention Yvonne Smith and Sandra Dalitz who in this competition scored their first Honour and Merit awards. Congratulations Ladies!   Well done to all!
