Family Fun Day

One cool and somewhat wet November Sunday a bunch of enthusiastic photographers, arranged to meet at Kent Reserve in Victor Harbor.

It was with some trepidation, when we began the drive down, with frequent showers of rain lashing the car.  So it was with much relief, when we arrived found our intrepid President, his wife, several members and one dog waiting for us, casually sitting around and chatting while basking in the sunshine.  Someone upstairs must have smiled on us that day, it rained everywhere except where we were!  Much food was eaten and many photos taken, great conversation was had, and even the children that attended had a fun day.

For me the highlight would be seeing the results from Paul Macdonald, getting in everyboby's face with a fish eye lens.  It is always good to catch up with other club members and I am looking foward to our next social gathering!

Mylor Conservation ParkAdelaide Hills Escape

On the 11th September the club met for a photographic weekend in the Adelaide Hills.  The accommodation at the YHA Hostel, situated on the edge of the Mylor Conservation Park, was comfortable and reasonably priced.  Taking full advantage of the beautiful spring weather we walked through the 49 ha park on Friday afternoon, and on Saturday explored the township of Mylor and it's Parklands. The nearby towns have many photo opportunities and we ventured to the Verdun River and the Bridgewater Mill.

The highlight of the weekend was the nocturnal walk at the Warrawong Wildlife Sanctuary.  Everyone enjoyed this so much that we made a return visit the next morning.  The 35 acre sanctuary protects several endangered species of marsupials including the Potaroo, Bettong, Woylie and Southern Brown Bandicoot.  An added bonus was seeing a Platypus on the surface of the pond. A fabulous weekend, good BBQs, excellent company and a chance to get to know everyone and exchange photography tips and ideas.  Many thanks to Jim McNamara for organising a fun weekend!

Rapid Bay Dive & Photo Shoot

On Sunday 29th March we had a combined activity with the Noarlunga Aquatic Recreational Club for Divers.  Rapid Bay is a very popular place for recreational diving, especially now that the old jetty has been replaced.  The divers are well looked after, with a safe non-slip stairway giving them easy access to the water.  About ten divers took the plunge, including Jim Fenemore from our club.

The weather was fantastic and the water calm, so the day was perfect for photography and diving.  We all got a few shots of the divers, the jetty, the beautiful beach and locals, not forgetting to mention their cute little doggies!

The approximate depth of the dive was 9 meters at the end of the old jetty.  Although it seemed calm on the surface, there was a current that made it more difficult underwater.  The murky water, visibility around 7metres, wasn't ideal for underwater photography, but the divers still managed to see Leafy Seadragons, massive schools of fish, nudibranchs and some small rays.

We all enjoyed a BBQ lunch supplied by the camera club, and once again a special thank you goes to Jack and Helen for all their efforts in buying and cooking the meat, bringing the BBQ and generally taking care of everything and everyone!

It was a fabulous way for the two clubs to get to know each other. For a treat, have a look at the Aquatic Club's web site and the fantastic gallery of underwater photography by Paul Macdonald and Nathan Crettenden   .www.narcd.com
